In 2025, Tecwill delivered a COBRA C120 mobile concrete batching plant to Nordland Betong AS in Fauske, Northern Norway. The plant was commissioned to support concrete production for the E6 Megården–Mørsvik highway project, one of the largest road infrastructure projects currently under construction in Nordland County.
The E6 Megården–Mørsvik project is one of the largest road infrastructure developments currently under construction in Northern Norway. The project will replace an existing section of the E6 with a modern highway designed to improve traffic safety, transport reliability, and capacity along one of Norway's most important north–south transport corridors.
The first construction phase covers approximately 21.5 km of new highway between Sommerset and Megården. The works include three tunnels with a combined length of approximately 13.8 km, nearly 7 km of open road, three bridges, and several smaller concrete structures. Construction started in 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2031 under a contract awarded to Skanska Norge AS valued at approximately NOK 4.4 billion. The project is being delivered to BREEAM Infrastructure "Design and Construction" certification at the Very Good level.
Concrete and shotcrete production is a critical element of the project. Tunnels, bridge decks, retaining walls, and foundations all require consistent, high-quality ready-mixed concrete and shotcrete with fibers delivered reliably throughout Northern Norway's winter construction seasons.
Nordland Betong AS is an independent ready-mixed concrete producer serving Northern Norway. Founded in 1947, the company has developed from a local concrete supplier into a regional producer with concrete plants and aggregate operations throughout Nordland County. The company has extensive experience supplying concrete to demanding infrastructure projects under Arctic conditions.
For the E6 Megården–Mørsvik project, Nordland Betong will supply approximately 100,000 m³ of ready-mixed concrete between 2025 and 2030. To meet the production requirements, the company expanded its Fauske facility by installing the COBRA C120 alongside its existing batching plant. The dual-plant arrangement provides increased capacity, production redundancy, and the flexibility to relocate the mobile unit as construction progresses.
This is not the first Tecwill plant at the Fauske facility. Nordland Betong previously received a Tecwill COBRA C80 for ready-mixed concrete production in the region. The C120 portable plant delivery scales up that established setup to match the demands of a significantly larger project.
Tecwill supplied a COBRA C120 mobile concrete batching plant for Nordland Betong's expanded production facility in Fauske.
The patented COBRA portable batch plant concept is factory pre-assembled. Rather than arriving on site as a collection of components requiring extensive foundation work and multi-week installation, the plant is delivered as an integrated unit. Site preparation requirements are minimal, and commissioning can begin within days of arrival.
For the E6 project, the COBRA C120 operates in parallel with Nordland Betong's existing batching plant. The dual-plant arrangement improves production continuity and provides operational flexibility throughout the project. Once the first phase is complete, the portable plant can be relocated to support subsequent construction phases, keeping the batching plant close to active work sites while minimizing transport distances and installation time.
Key features of the COBRA C120:
The plant's automated batching controls and accurate weighing systems support consistent mix quality across the full range of structural concrete and shotcrete required, including tunnel lining, bridge deck, and retaining wall mixes.
The E6 Megården–Mørsvik project requires continuous production of high-quality concrete and spray concrete (shotcrete with fibers) over several years. The scale of the project places high demands on production capacity, delivery reliability, and operational flexibility over different mix designs and slumps.
The COBRA C120 was selected because it combines high production capacity with rapid installation and mobility. By operating together with the existing batching plant, the new installation provides backup production capacity while reducing the risk of interruptions to concrete deliveries.
Mobility was another important consideration. As the project progresses across multiple construction phases, the COBRA plant can be relocated to support subsequent work fronts, allowing the batching plant to remain close to active sites while minimizing transport distances and installation time.
The plant's accurate "FLYING" weighing systems and automated process control support consistent concrete quality throughout the project, enabling efficient production of the wide range of mix designs required for tunnels, bridges, and other civil engineering structures.
The new COBRA C120 batching plant strengthens Nordland Betong's production capacity for one of Norway's largest ongoing transport infrastructure projects.
By supplying a mobile, high-capacity concrete batching solution, Tecwill supports reliable concrete production throughout the E6 Megården–Mørsvik project while providing the flexibility to relocate production as construction progresses. The project demonstrates how winterized mobile batching technology can improve production consistency, delivery reliability and long-term utilization of concrete production equipment in large infrastructure projects.
The COBRA C120 is a patented, fully factory-assembled winterized mobile concrete batching plant. It arrives pre-assembled and can be commissioned within days, without the foundation work or multi-week installation associated with conventional mobile plants.
The E6 Megården–Mørsvik project spans multiple construction phases across an extended corridor in Northern Norway. A winterized mobile plant can be relocated as the project progresses, keeping concrete production close to active work sites and reducing transport distances. Operating in parallel with an existing plant also provides production redundancy for a project where concrete and shotcrete supply interruptions would directly affect tunnel and bridge construction schedules.
The plant is designed for continuous cold-weather production, with insulated enclosures, winterized aggregate and cement handling, and heated water systems to maintain mix quality at low ambient temperatures. Tecwill has supplied COBRA plants to Norwegian contractors across multiple infrastructure projects, including a COBRA C80 to Nordland Betong at the same Fauske facility.
The plant supports a wide range of mix designs, including standard ready-mixed concrete, high-strength structural mixes, shotcrete for tunnel lining, bridge deck concrete and self consolidated concrete. Automated batching controls allow efficient transitions between mix specifications without manual recalibration.
The COBRA C120 mobile concrete mixing plant is equipped with a BHS twin-shaft mixer, which ensures thorough homogenization of aggregates, cement, water, and admixtures across all batch sizes.
If one plant requires maintenance or experiences a stoppage, the second plant continues production. For a project like the E6, where concrete feeds time-sensitive tunnel and bridge work, that continuity is critical. See our post on the twin concrete plant concept for more detail.
